Level 115 Gear

Myndariel finally reached level 115 while doing some Erebor quests in Northern Mirkwood. It's been a slow and arduous journey levelling from 105 to 115 and I hope they don't make any regions like Mordor again because it wasn't fun. Northern Mirkwood, on the other hand, is beautiful and a joy to explore and quest through.

Now that I'm 115, I need new gear. So where do I get level 115 gear?

  • Crafted gear
  • Quests in Northern Mirkwood
  • Dungeons/raids/instances
  • Barter with factions
  • World drops
  • Auction hall
Unfortunately, skirmish camp gear only goes up to level 105 at present.

The maximum level for legendary items is still level 100.

World Drops

These scaled items have no Light of Eärendil and generally no essence slots. Item levels range from about 304 to 315. They can drop from mobs, be found in treasure caches, or for sale at the auction hall.

Quests

Some quest chains in Northern Mirkwood reward you with level 115 gear with item level 340. I got gloves from Dale, a helmet from Erebor, and boots from Felegoth.

Crafted Gear

Some crafted gear have essence slots and most have Light of Eärendil. Recipes must be purchased from barterers. Crafted gear may be for sale at the auction hall.

Conquest of Gorgoroth (Mordor)

The Quartermaster (Conquest of Gorgoroth Crafting) has Doomfold recipes for item level 323 to 326 armour, weapons, jewellery and minstrel instruments. There are also superior minstrel instrument recipes for item level 336 instruments.

The Quartermaster (Gorgoroth Crafting Vendor) has superior versions of Doomfold recipes for item level 333 to 335 weapons, armour and jewellery. Ally standing with Conquest of Gorgoroth is required to purchase recipes.

Men of Dale (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Men of Dale Crafting) has Doomfold recipes for item level 345 helmets, Will pocket and Will necklace. Kindred standing with the Men of Dale is required to purchase recipes.

Elves of Felegoth (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Elves of Felegoth Crafting) has Doomfold recipes for item level 345 helmets, Agility pocket and Agility necklace. Kindred standing with the Elves of Felegoth is required to purchase recipes.

Dwarves of Erebor (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Dwarves of Erebor Crafting) has Doomfold recipes for item level 345 helmets, Might pocket and Might necklace. Kindred standing with the Dwarves of Erebor is required to purchase recipes.

Barter with Factions

Gear can be earned by completing quests and tasks to impress various factions and collecting the appropriate tokens of barter.

Conquest of Gorgoroth (Mordor)

The Quartermaster (Gorgoroth Rewards Vendor) has item level 330 off-hand weapons and shields for barter. Ally standing with Conquest of Gorgoroth is required to purchase items.

The High Enchanter (Elf-smith) has item level 330 armour and jewellery for barter using Ash of Enchantment. Ally standing with Conquest of Gorgoroth is required to purchase items.

The Keeper of Mysteries (Vendor of Rare Oddities) has item level 337 armour for barter using Ash of Enchantment.

Men of Dale (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Men of Dale Rewards Vendor) has item level 340 light armour and jewellery for barter. Acquaintance standing with Men of Dale is required to purchase items (some items require higher levels of reputation).

Elves of Felgoth (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Elves of Felegoth Rewards Vendor) has item level 340 medium armour and jewellery for barter. Acquaintance standing with Elves of Felegoth is required to purchase items (some items require higher levels of reputation).

Dwarves of Erebor (Northern Mirkwood)

The Quartermaster (Dwarves of Erebor Rewards Vendor) has item level 340 heavy armour and jewellery for barter. Acquaintance standing with Dwarves of Erebor is required to purchase items (some items require higher levels of reputation).

Allegiance Halls

Quartermasters for the Court of Lothlórien, Durin's Folk, The Kingdom of Gondor, and Hobbits of the Company have item level 330 armour and jewellery for barter.

Instances (dungeons/raids/challenges etc.)

The Featured Challenge Rewards Vendor has item level 340 class sets of armour (with set bonuses) for barter.

The Plateau of Gorgoroth instances (The Court of Seregost - small fellowship, The Dungeons of Naerband - fellowship, The Abyss of Mordath - raid) are designed for level 105-115 and has gear drops with Light of Eärendil. The item level will depend on the instance level (based on preliminary data from Lotro-Wiki, it appears that at level 115 the item level will be at least 330).

Essences

You can purchase Tier 10 essences from:
  • Keeper of Mysteries (Vendor of Rare Oddities)
  • Quartermaster (Men of Dale Rewards) - requires Kindred standing with Men of Dale
  • Quartermaster (Elves of Felegoth Rewards) - requires Kindred standing with Elves of Felegoth
  • Quartermaster (Dwarves Rewards) - requires Kindred standing with Dwarves of Erebor

Crafting essences of your choice may also be an option:

Crafted 1H Clubs Gallery now Available

I've just added the gallery for crafted one-handed clubs made by woodworkers. They have never been one of my favourite weapons in-game as I associate them with cave-men and rioters, but there are some that look ok.

Of course there's a baseball bat-like club (Stout Ash Club). The Yew Club is rather nice with the large jewels and is available at low levels. The Supreme tier clubs seem to be more metallic than wooden - some of them almost look like maces. And I think the Club of the Rider and the Wildermore Club are probably the most interesting. The Club of the Rider seems to fit the Rohan style nicely while the Wildermore club looks like it is sprouting fur, which sort of makes sense, as Wildermore is very cold, but also really doesn't - if you're going to bludgeon something, does it really matter if it is warm or not?

Legendary Titles for Beornings (and Might-based Classes)

So my Beorning just got a new legendary weapon and needs a new title. Which titles would be useful and where do I get them from?

Here are a few suggestions that may be useful for might-based classes. Note that higher tier titles are generally available at higher levels and offer higher stats.

    Legendary Weapon Titles

Regarding damage types, in general use Beleriand (good against a range of common enemies), use Westernesse against undead-type mobs and Light or Cries against orcs and goblins.

Tip: If you switch between roles in groups and use the same legendary weapon, Might of Eldar Days is probably the best title to use as it increases both physical and tactical mastery as well as avoidance (mainly parry).

    Crafted Halberds Gallery Now Available

It's been a little while since I added any more crafted weapon galleries. I've been collecting images for the legendary weapons galleries and I discovered you can't preview minstrel instruments in the wardrobe, so I'll have to get some action shots for those.

Halberds are unique to Captains and I think the Crafted Halberds Gallery shows that they are pretty cool looking. There's a lot of variety in shape and style and I can't imagine why a Captain would want to use anything else.

I think for my Captain, I have three favourite crafted halberds that would look good with her outfit, but I also have to give a shout out to the Galadhrim Halberd - usually Galadhrim weapons are copies of another crafted weapon skin, but this one is unique and beautiful.

    Crafted 2H Axes Gallery Available

Yule Tide has arrived so my weaponsmith decided to dress for the occasion while she shows off the two-handed axes that can be crafted in LOTRO. You can view the full collection at the Weaponsmith: Crafted 2H Axes gallery.

My weaponsmith with her favourite crafted 2H axe
The two-handed axes weren't all that wonderful, unfortunately. Nothing that made me go, "Oh wow, my character would love to wield that!" The Supreme tier weapons are probably the best of the bunch as they look more like legendary weapons, with a bit more detail, colour and variation.

Crafted Bows and Crossbows Gallery Available

Woodworkers can make some lovely bows and crossbows and you can now view them in the Woodworker: Crafted Bows and Crossbows gallery.

There was quite a variety of bow styles - some were smooth, some were spiky, some had jewels, some had vines, some had glowing lights, some had a combination of these. The crossbows were simpler and much more solid-looking, but there were a few stand-outs. The cross-bows were more likely to have glowing lights, mostly red or blue, playing along the limbs.

Glowing blue lights move from tips to center

There was also quite a lot of collision with weapons poking through arms or back, which is a shame but every graphics engine has its limitations. Nevertheless, if I was choosing a weapon for its cosmetic appearance, that would be something to take into consideration.

    My favourite bows:

Carved Yew Bow - pretty jewels

Black Ash Bow - nice vines

    Wildermore Bow - colourful pattern

    My favourite crossbows:

    Yew Crossbow - beautifully carved

Smooth Black Ash Crossbow - uniquely leafy

Silver Ilex Crossbow - just wow!

Level 100 Gear Updated for U17

Last year when West Gondor was released I wrote an article about level 100 gear for Lore-masters. With the arrival of update 17 and a new tier of crafted gear plus new factions, it seems time to reconsider how we gear up, but I'll try to be more general so as to be relevant to all classes.

    Skirmish Camps

    Item Level 192

Skirmish camps have rare quality level 100 armour, weapons and accessories available for marks and medallions. A few pieces of the rare quality Nadhin armour set with essence slots are also available from the light/medium/heavy armour vendors.

    Dol Amroth Faction (West Gondor)

    Item Level 192

Dol Amroth offers barterers with incomparable quality armour sets; class-specific sets (including legendary second age weapon) plus light/medium/heavy sets with essence slots for customisation (variations of the essence slot armour may also be available as quest rewards or world drops). These items are purchased with tokens earned by completing quests and daily quests around Dol Amroth.

    Scalable Instances

    Item Level 192

Scalable instances set to level 100 can drop incomparable quality armour, jewellery and off-hand weapons of the Greater set (or rare quality items of the Potent set) but there are no set bonuses. These items may also be found on the auction house.

    World Drops

    Item Level 192

Light/medium/heavy sets of incomparable quality gear with set bonuses may drop from mobs or be available from the auction house. For example, the Guardian of Watchwood set of light armour.

With similar stat weightings to the Greater and Potent sets, the uncommon quality Lesser set also drops from mobs and can be found on the auction house.

    Epic Battles

    Item Level 192-204

Completing the quests in epic battles can reward jewellery of various qualities or tokens that can be used to purchase class-specific jewellery.

The Minas Tirith epic battles can reward epic quality cloaks with an essence slot.

Rangers of Ithilien Faction (East Gondor)

    Item Levels 195-198

The quartermaster sells rare quality shoulders and jewellery and incomparable quality off-hand weapons for tokens earned by completing quests and tasks in East Gondor.

    Osgiliath Instances (East Gondor)

    Item Level 201

The Osgiliath Rewards Vendor sells incomparable quality light/medium/heavy armour sets with essence slots for tokens earned from Osgiliath instances.

    Crafting - Tier 10 (Anórien)

    Item Level 201

Rare or incomparable quality items can now be crafted with most armour and jewellery having essence slots.

    Minas Tirith Fellowships (Old Anórien)

    Item Level 204

Fellowships within Minas Tirith have different incomparable armour available for the appropriate tokens (earned by completing daily quests near Minas Tirith). The armour has essence slots.

Builder's Fellowship - head, shoulders, chest
Smith's Fellowship - gloves, legs, feet

    Crafted Daggers Gallery Available

My burglar was happy to show off her crafted daggers, but only in the shadows of the forges of Thorin's Hall for some sneaky reason. You can now view the daggers gallery too.

The daggers were very simple and very similar at low levels. The Supreme tier daggers were my favourite with their unique shapes, gold and jewels. Fortunately, the higher tiers also showed some interesting variations in weapon shape.

    Typical Low-level Dagger

    Supreme Tier Dagger

    Level 75 Dagger

I expect the legendary daggers will show off some more bling. I'll have to look out for nice quest rewards too. My burglar wants to fill her lair with dangerous but beautiful weapons that will prove she has robbed rich and powerful villains and lived to tell the tale (whispered in dark alleys and shady taverns).

    Crafted Staves Gallery Available

I couldn't wait any longer - I had to see what the full collection of crafted staves looked like - and now you can too by visiting the Woodworker: Crafted Staves page.

A good staff is a lore-master's best friend - after her pet of course! Fortunately, woodworkers can turn wooden sticks into some beautiful works of art. My favourite is the Scout's Staff; it might look familiar from my profile picture ...

    Level 56: Scout's Staff

    Close up of the details

    Myndariel's favourite staff

Unfortunately, after level 65 there are only legendary lore-master staves that can be crafted. They're beautiful too, but we'll have to wait to see them when I do the legendary lore-master weapons article.

    1H Axes Gallery Available

Following quick on the heels of the 1H swords gallery, the 1H axes gallery is now available to view on the Weaponsmith: Crafted 1H Axes page.

None of my characters normally wield an axe, but there were several axes I liked, particularly the double-sided axes such as the Heavy Iron Axe and the Elven-steel Axe. I can definitely see a dwarf guardian swinging it side-to-side through a crowd of clamouring goblins. Also useful for chopping wood for a campfire - and showing off your battle prowess to your comrades while drinking ale and singing loudly and badly - another favourite past-time of dwarves.

    Heavy Iron Axe

    Elven-steel Axe

Amongst the other axes, the Thain's Axe, Westfold Axe and the Axe of the Mark are quite detailed and interesting. The Axe of the Rider and Wildermore Axe are also unique.

    Thain's Axe

    Westfold Axe

    Axe of the Mark

Oh, and there was also one that was unbelievably ugly ... the Sellsword's Axe. It reminds me of someone doing the sign of the horns, but with a blade along one edge. Maybe the weapon was supposed to be particularly good at warding against the evil eye (Eye of Sauron) and killing his minions? It does Westernesse damage, which is strong against The Dead, Unseen and Gaunt Men. Coincidence? Probably not.

    Sellsword's Axe

    1H Swords Gallery Available

The first crafted weapons gallery is here! I've started with one-handed swords which you can view on the Weaponsmith: Crafted 1H Swords page.

I found that the swords blades are, in general, fairly simple designs but there are some interesting hilts. Unfortunately, you don't really see them unless you're up close to the character and they have drawn their sword - in which case you better hope they don't intend to use it against you!

Some of the swords that stood out to me as more interesting include the Elven-steel Sword which was narrow with a delicate cross-guard and the Sword of the Mark which had a more bronze-coloured blade than most, while the Wildermore and Fangorn swords had some of the nicest hilts.

    Elven-steel Sword

    Sword of the Mark

    Wildermore Sword

    Fangorn Sword

I haven't included the crafted legendary weapons as I think I'll cover them separately, maybe by class rather than by weapon type. For the legendary weapon galleries I'd probably also include the dropped and vendor legendaries so that they're all together.

What have I got myself into? For someone who is not an artist I see a lot of galleries in the future!

    Crafted Weapons Gallery Coming Soon

    Return of the Lore-master

Hi. I took a break from LOTRO after the release of Central and Eastern Gondor. Mostly I felt disappointed with the quality of the releases. However, after some time away I started to miss Middle Earth. My interest was also piqued when they announced the imbued legendary items and cosmetic weapons. So I'm gradually getting back into the game again, especially since the Farmer's Faire (my favourite holiday event).

Cosmetic Weapons and Gallery Coming Soon

I know I kept a couple of staves that I got as quest rewards while levelling Myndariel because they looked cool but I'm sure there's a lot more nice looking weapons out there and since I like crafting I'm going to focus on crafted weapons and showcase them in a gallery like I've done with armour, to make it easier to find good looking swords, daggers, axes, bows, spears, staves and shields ... did I forget anything? Probably. In any case, my craftsmen will dust off their tools and get to work very soon in the crafting hall of Bree.
